As we seem to rush into 2022, and people decide on their ‘New Years Resolutions’, and we become bombarded with advertising of diet and fitness programs, sales of fitness and health equipment in the stores, it’s really time for a good solid reflection. This is exactly what I am going to do in this article.
Intentions for 2022
- Continue with my ADHD treatment, an ongoing process of discovering how best to work with my brain.
- Continue expanding the self-care I’m practicing, step-by-step so it’s not overwhelming (see #1).
- Take lots of photos, moreso than last year. It’s a passion of mine, and this year I’ll be primarily looking at macro, minimalist and black & white photography particularly.
- Continue working on my minimalist mindset. Making deliberate, conscious choices of what I need, over what I want - bringing the important, joyful things to the fore. This has been difficult in the past (again, see #1).
Notice anything? None of these are new. They are continuations. I’ve only listed them here as expectations of the upcoming year, but I know I should be able to keep them as I’ve already been working on them during the course of the last year anyway. There are lots of little nuances and details going into some of these (for example, expanding the self-care includes altering my food intake slightly, or adjusting my wardrobe so my clothes fit better and also following my minimalist attitudes by having a small, but good set of clothes).
So there’s lots of details in these, but that isn’t something to list - it’s steps I intend to take when the time comes. January 1st is not the time for listing everything and then failing to make the change -
Rushing into action, you fail.
Trying to grasp things, you lose them.
Forcing a project to completion,
you ruin what was almost ripe.
Therefore the Master takes action,
by letting things take their course.
He remains as calm at the end
as at the beginning.
Lao Tzu
Following this principle, it’s simply my intention to let the “projects” take their natural course, not forcing these items I need to tackle, but instead doing each one as it comes to the forefront of my life. That way I can be more careful, considered and simple in my mind as to how to process, solve and work on them each small step at a time.
Happy New Year, everyone.
